In over 150 years of history, Cafè Capretz had a very famous customer: the poet Giovanni Pascoli. Pascoli used to live in Castelvecchio di Barga in the years 1895-1912.
Pascoli was a regular customer of Cafè Capretz. He had a good friendships with Capretz family. There is an original episode: Italiano Capretz, owner of the Cafè, used to produce herbal infusions. He gave the name of “Giovanni Pascoli flowers” to one of his products. The poet modestly asked him to change the name in the more elusive “Young pastures’ flowers” (an Italian joke of words with the sound of Pascoli name). Pascoli dedicated to his friend the beautiful poem “A Italiano Capretz”, in which he imagines to drink the excellent infusion and to have a journey in the green area of Barga.
